Restoring Your Appetite

I am one of those people who gets really excited about repurposing or reorganizing old things, whether it’s furniture, kitchen cabinets, or something really big like… an old mill.

To take that idea a step further, I love discovering renovated buildings that are thriving in their new purposes. Anyone who has visited Stay Work Play in recent months probably knows this already, but The Flats at Hanover Commons in Manchester was recently renovated into office spaces, micro apartments, and a lovely cafe. As a Stay Work Play food blogger I honestly just thought it was my duty to visit. I’m now recommending the cafe to my coworkers and friends as a really cute spot for lunch, dinner, meetings, or anything in between. To see better pictures of the cafe and the actual apartments, visit their website here.

The interior of Restoration Cafe is so cool. It’s a good mix of old (the stained glass windows are even prettier in person!) along with more sleek, modern furniture and purple lighting. Along another wall are the mailboxes for the apartments upstairs, which reminded me a lot of a college union or business office.

I stopped by the cafe after work with an empty stomach and a new book. The dinner/golden hour light is my favorite and made the outdoor patio the perfect place to relax. There were a few other humans and dogs outside when I stopped by, along with some casual music.

First up was my Caesar salad. It was a really good size, with fresh lemon zest and salty, crispy capers on top. These simple additions made for a really delicious, simple salad with a lot of flavor. The warm garlic buttery croutons, if you can call them croutons, were also a highlight. Croutons should come with everything, don’t you think?

I also ordered their 4-cheese grilled cheese, which has delicious layers of creamy gruyere, ricotta, cheddar, and provolone. It was lightly toasted, extremely gooey and stringy, and served with seasoned popcorn.

If you need a cute new hangout, more croutons in your life, or a cocktail (they have prosecco on tap!) then stop by the Restoration Cafe, Sunday through Thursday from 9am to 7pm, and Friday and Saturday from 9am to 8pm. They offer breakfast foods, smoothies, and sandwiches, as well as heartier meals. Find more information and their menu here.
