Internship Description

Ophthalmic Assistants (OA) works alongside Eye Doctors, Ophthalmologists or Optometrists, to provide patient care. OAs ensure providers have accurate and complete information which helps them diagnose and treat patients. Successful OAs are detail oriented, have strong communication skills and are committed to providing exceptional patient care.

The OA Program is 13 weeks long and the curriculum includes classroom instruction, skills training, and practicum. You will be hired into a Trainee role by D-H and earn a training wage. As a successful graduate, you will be promoted into an OA role in the D-H Ophthalmology Department. After your first 500 hours of work under the supervision of a Ophthalmologist, you will be eligible to sit for the JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Assistant Exam (COA), the certifying body of allied health professionals in ophthalmology.
