10 Great Songs to Power You Through Your Workout

iPodHappy New Year! If you are like me, now that the holidays are over and you have more free time on your hands, you’re looking to get back into your workout routine. Or, maybe you’re looking to start a new workout routine. I can tell you that getting back to my regular exercise schedule is badly needed after all the delicious food, sweets, and stress of the holiday season.

With this first week of January starts my personal goal to get more exercise each week. I’m usually at the gym or doing some kind of physical activity at least 4 days per week, if not 5. For the last couple of months, I’ve just been too busy for the gym. (Note: I haven’t been a complete couch potato – I have been Spinning at Cranmore Fitness!) They say it takes 3 weeks to make or break a habit. After 3 weeks of being significantly less active than usual, it’s a struggle to get back into the habit of working out. I’ve been pumping myself up for this day and telling myself that after the holidays, I’ll have more time for exercise. I’m sooo ready for this!

You might be in the same boat as me. Or, starting to exercise or dropping a few pounds might be part of your New Year’s Resolution. Whatever the case, one of my key motivators is a stellar playlist on my iPod. I can’t get through a tough Kettlebell session or intervals on the treadmill without some killer tunes in my ears. Here are some of my favorite workout jams – Download for yourself, take ‘em to the gym, and then tell me they didn’t help you power through your workout!

  1. Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars)
  2. Clean Bandit – Rather Be
  3. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Can’t Hold Us
  4. Taylor Swift – Shake it Off
  5. Black Keys – Lonely Boy
  6. Adele – Rolling in the Deep
  7. Kanye West – Stronger
  8. Florence + The Machine – Lover to Lover
  9. Grace Potter – The Lion the Beast the Beat
  10. Lady Gaga – Edge of Glory

BONUS: Meghan Trainor – All About That Bass

What’s missing? Send me your playlist suggestions so I can add them to my workout mix.

I’m off to the gym!
