5 Diners in Laconia You Have to Try

When you think of small town America, diners often come to mind. In decades past, they served as a meeting place and hang out spot that didn’t take much thought. Today, we tend to connect with friends, colleagues and family at trendy coffee shops like Wayfarer Coffee Roasters in Laconia, but diners still exist and there are five you just have to try in Laconia, New Hampshire.

5 Laconia Diners to Try

Below is a list of five Laconia diners and cafes that still have the classic diner atmosphere with the classic diner mug and all. Plan a visit, try out breakfast early on a Saturday morning or stop in late for a slice of pie.

One of my favorites is The Union Diner which has incorporated an old train dining car into the main strip of the dining area, the 1951 Worcester dining car. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Prepare to take step back in time, The Soda Shoppe, which opened in 1976, is an adorable breakfast stop, open by 6:30am. This was a popular place to meet up in high school as it’s right downtown off of Main Street in Laconia. Make sure to check out their specials, which are always great.

Another favorite for breakfast, lunch or dinner (on Fridays) is the Water Street Cafe, which opened in 1988. They have a huge selection on their menu and literally everything is delicious. This is a popular meeting spot for Fusion planning meetings. When family or friends visit from out of town, we always make sure to bring them to Water Street Cafe for breakfast!

I’ve gone here since I was in elementary school. You’ll still find “the regulars” here on most mornings; they’ve likely held this tradition for decades. You walk into a bustling diner atmosphere, are seated quickly and served even faster. They’ve been around since the 80s and open at 5:30am!

Donna Jean’s is a seasonal diner serving the summer tourists by Weirs Beach. They boast a homemade hollandaise sauce over their Eggs Winnipesaukee, their house special. They’re open April through October.
