Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I currently work as a Realtor with the O’Halloran Group in New London. It has been an amazing experience being able to help people through the purchase process. Specializing in luxury and waterfront properties, I get so see some of the best that NH has to offer. When not assisting people with their real estate needs, you can find me volunteering with various local organizations including the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce where I served on the Board of Directors. I also have the privilege of serving as a firefighter on the New London Fire Department.

Why did you choose to stay in New Hampshire?

Let me start by saying that I love to travel and visit other places, but New Hampshire is the only place that feels like home. When you grow up here, experiencing the change of seasons, all of the outdoor opportunities… I can’t stay away. It offers so many different things in a relatively small package. Within two hours in pretty much any direction, I can be in metropolitan areas, sitting on the beach or hiking in some of the tallest mountains on the east coast. How could I trade that?

Why did you choose to live in your current city/town?

My family and I settled in Springfield after living in New London for a few years. Springfield is that quintessential New England town. Small, everyone knows each other and with a strong sense of community. We were able to find a beautiful piece of property that allowed us to start the family farm we had been dreaming of for a long time. We are able to live in a very quiet, peaceful location, but just a few minutes drive to downtown New London, Lake Sunapee and Mount Sunapee.

What would you say to someone that is considering moving to NewΒ Hampshire?

Do it! Determine what is most important to you and then reach out to a realtor (shameless plug). We’re here to be a resource and help guide you to which areas will best meet your needs. NH has so much to offer that you can usually find homes with access to almost whatever you would need within a short distance.

Tell us some of your favorite places in the state or your region. i.e, restaurants, recreational or cultural activities, etc.

I love spending my time outdoors, so things that I love about our area are the incredible number of lakes for boating, kayaking and fishing. Lake Sunapee and Pleasant Lake are two of my favorites. The mountains offer tons of opportunities to explore and some truly breath-taking views of our state. Locally, Mt. Kearsarge is an awesome hike (especially with little kids). If you head up to the White Mountains, nothing compares. In recent years, our region has increased it’s offerings of restaurants. I love being able to stop into Blue Loon Bakery off of Main Street in New London and get AMAZING fresh breads and croissants. The Refinery offers some fantastic BBQ options, but that brisket melts in your both. We also have several wonderful micro/nano brewers in the area that are offering up a wide arrange of IPAs and ales that are second to none.

If money were not an issue, what would your version of a “perfect” day in the state look like?

If money was no issue, it would definitely have to include some time out on the boat on Lake Sunapee, hitting up the local farmers markets and dinner at the Inn at Pleasant Lake. If you’re doing this on July 4th, switch up the order and end the day out on the boat on Lake Sunapee to watch the amazing fireworks show from the water!

What do you believe to be the “New Hampshire” advantage?

There are many advantages to NH. We’ve already talked about the amount of offerings in a small area, allowing for access to anything you need within a short drive compared to any other state. We have maintained that rural feel and sense of community that you don’t always find in other places, while still keeping up with today’s business needs. There are also financial advantages with having no sales tax or income tax.

Is there someone in the state that you would like to have coffee with? And why?

If I could have coffee with anyone in the state (and occasionally do), it would be Jay Lucas. A NH native, successful businessman and author of American Sunshine. Jay is immensely supportive of our communities, loves the entrepreneurial spirit and a great person to bounce ideas off. If there is someone who has a can-do attitude and will do whatever he can to help you with your endeavors, it’s Jay Lucas.
