Court Klein, Senior Manager at BerryDunn, knows how to work hard, play hard and give back to his community.
Court jokes that he choose accounting as a career because it was first on the list of majors to choose from—and perhaps being a farmer could be his real calling because of how much he enjoys visiting the Tractor Supply Company.
Despite the “bean counter” stereotype, accountants are invaluable when it comes to leading clients through the ever-changing worlds of tax and finance. According to Court, one of his biggest accomplishments was receiving his CPA designation, providing him the opportunity to gain management-level experience and work with a wide range of industries and clients.
Court is part of the Audit and Accounting group at BerryDunn, where he showcases his talent in the advanced manufacturing, high tech, and construction fields. Court has experience in both public accounting and private accounting. It was while he was in private accounting that Court was the Controller of an agency whose client was Justin Timberlake!
Court’s favorite parts about being in the BerryDunn family for 11 years have been the opportunities for career growth, to be part of initiatives like the Green Team, and to work with really intelligent co-workers. He explains that BerryDunn has a very entrepreneurial spirit and his co-workers know how to have fun. There was a time in Court’s career he rocked it out with a band called Unaccountedfor!
“The firm is very supportive of its employees and provides all types of resources to support employee’s individual goals,” says Court. Given that BerryDunn is consistently recognized as a Top 100 full-service accounting and consulting firm, it doesn’t come as a shock that the firm provides extensive employee benefits, continuing professional education including CPA exam support, and an overwhelming amount of perks like a mentor program, flex work options, sports teams, and “busy season” stress relievers. Whether you are a college student or a highly experienced CPA, BerryDunn is always seeking qualified candidates from all levels to join teams in its Manchester, New Hampshire office. Court thinks that the best way to break into the accounting field is to find an internship.
With top-notch programs, BerryDunn retains and advances women; the American Society of Women Accountants and the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants each named BerryDunn one of the ten best CPA firms for women.
Court, his wife, and two kids will be staying in New Hampshire because they think it’s a great place to raise kids and enhance their quality of life: “New Hampshire offers exposure to diversity, arts and culture, educational and economic opportunities yet you can easily get away to some great remote outdoor settings.”
The easy accessibility to everything from beaches and lakes to mountains and urban centers keeps them in New Hampshire on the weekdays and weekends. Some of Court’s common haunts are Pulpit Rock, Nashua Rail Trail, Cannon, Pat’s Peak, Echo Lake State Park, and Mount Sunapee. After being part of a wilderness program at college, Court stays involved in outdoor climbing as a hobby. He attends the Ice Climbing Festival in North Conway every year. He embraces the outdoors, riding his road and mountain bikes, rock climbing, hiking, and fishing.
Getting lunch at Angela’s Pasta and Cheese Shop on Appleton Street is a personal favorite. Court gives back through both civic and professional associations. He became an executive committee member of the Manchester Community Music School after learning about it during the prestigious Leadership Greater Manchester program. He has now grown into the role of treasurer and chair of the finance committee, and he is excited for all the funds the next Dancing with the Local Stars Gala will raise.
As a founding board member and treasurer, ManchesterMoves, Inc., is a project especially close to his heart. ManchesterMoves’ goal is to facilitate the development of pedestrian trail systems where you can “hike it, bike it or walk it” in Manchester as well Manchester’s surrounding communities. Stay up to date with the progress here.
