Pine & Bars Co., a digital marketing and design company, was born in Concord just like its founder and creative director, Michael Browning. Brought up in Bow by his Vermonter mom and entrepreneur dad, Michael attended Bow High School and then traveled south for college. He began his college journey in Mississippi but finished up his schooling at the University of Alabama, where he studied consumer affairs with a focus on marketing. After college, Michael found himself working for a sports marketing company in Boston where he focused on events, product placement, and sponsorship for NASCAR and LPGA.
As he gained experience in the industry and saw digital marketing and social media growing in popularity, Michael decided to make the leap and start a company doing just that – in Concord, New Hampshire. Specializing in branding, social media engagement, photography, web design, and ecommerce, the Pine & Bars Co. team is second-to-none when it comes to creating content that is both distinct and aesthetically pleasing.
“The more you put into New Hampshire, the more you get out,” Michael says, reflecting on what he has learned from his father, owner of Concord’s Cobb Hill Construction, over the years. After this nugget of wisdom, he follows up with something that not only echoes his own experience but the experience of many others in the Granite State: anyone can be a success story in New Hampshire. In the words of the creative director, “Pine & Bars Co. is unlike any other company in New Hampshire. We design like we live in Texas or Brooklyn, a classic American style, which is in high demand.” And in Michael’s opinion, Pine & Bars Co.’s location is everything when it comes to its unique approach and resounding success.
The company has worked with high profile clients like LinkedIn, L’Oreal Paris USA and Canada, and The Today Show without having to relocate to Boston, New York City, or even Silicon Valley. Residing in one of the most successful and well-respected regions in the country, New Hampshire’s companies compete with and even outshine big city agencies, and Pine & Bars Co. is a testament to this fact. Running a company with the freedom to be productive pretty much anywhere certainly has its perks. Just recently, Michael started, ran, and then sold one of the first Snapchat filter design companies in the country…all from the island in his kitchen.
While location is integral, Michael also believes the close-knit relationships he has with fellow business owners is key to his company’s flourishing growth. Truly, Pine & Bars Co. was discussed at lunches at Live Juice and developed during coffee breaks with colleagues at True Brew.
When Michael isn’t busy working with his experienced team on their newest endeavor, you can find him spending time with his family and community. Or, you might catch him having a fantastic dinner at The Barley House or a great lunch at Capital Deli, both of which are located in downtown Concord.
