Connection + Friendly Competition — My Social Sports NH

Spring is a symbol of new beginnings and a fresh start. And even though we love our winters in New Hampshire, you can feel the collective excitement for what is to come. This year, you could almost hear an audible sigh of relief after a long year of staying home, social distancing, and connecting with friends, family, and co-workers virtually.

Believe it or not, social connection plays a huge role in our health. A 2018 study conducted by Cigna found that a lack of social connection is a greater risk to health than obesity, smoking, and high blood pressure. We are fortunate in New Hampshire to have an organization whose mission encompasses social connection and physical activity!

Play Sports. Meet People. Have Fun.

My Social Sports New Hampshire was founded in 2006 in Manchester with the mission of bringing people together to play sports and meet people! Now 15 years later, you can find My Social Sports leagues not only across New Hampshire but across the country.

“We have all sports except for high contact sports like tackle football or ice hockey,” says Elijah Quimby, Co-Owner of My Social Sports. “You don’t have to have any previous experience, and skill level varies. You get out of it what you want to put into it. If you want to turn into a better player you can or if you just want to meet people you can do that too.”

It doesn’t just end when the game is over, they have all of the bases covered. My Social Sports partners with local bars and restaurants to provide players with discounts to allow the fun to continue. If this past year has left you craving human connection or if you recently made the move to New Hampshire, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

“In my experience, the coolest thing about this is that you can meet someone you would have never met before but have a shared common interest,” says Quimby. “I met some really cool people when I joined a volleyball team when I had first moved to Manchester in 2007 that I still talk to today.”

  • Are you new to town?
  • Are you a former athlete looking to feed your competitive spirit?
  • Are you looking to meet people and make new friends?

My Social Sports might be just what you’re looking for!

People have a good experience, they meet friends, and they get excited about it! We’ve had a proposal at one of our dodgeball games, we’ve had people come back to us years later looking for shirts for their wedding photos or baby onesies. It’s really cool to hear stuff like that.”

COVID-19 Precautions.

Most businesses would agree that 2020 was a hard year. That sentiment is echoed by Elijah and the team at My Social Sports.

“It’s been tough for us because we’re sports and group activities. That’s obviously been problematic. We’ve adjusted our plans for COVID and really make sure that we’re focusing on safety. We’ve had to pair down what we offer and are focused on our outdoor sports that are very low-to-no contact and we’re hopeful for the future.”

The club continues to monitor expert recommendations for sports groups, including guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), venue partners, and local and state officials.

Get Involved.

A typical season lasts 8-9 weeks including playoffs and championship games (if you’re lucky)! But there are other opportunities to get involved if you’re not ready for the commitment. In addition to leagues, they also host one-day tournaments, charity tournaments, and pick-up games frequently throughout the year.

Don’t have a full team or signing up solo? No worries! You’re what they call a “free agent” and will be placed on a team looking for additional players. The spring season is currently underway. However, it gives you plenty of time to decide which sport you want to play this summer or fall. Visit MySocialSports.com to learn more and sign-up!

If you have specific questions about the COVID-19 policies for the sport you are interested in playing in, email havefun@mysocialsports.com, or check the description for the specific league you are inquiring about.
