For many, summer in New Hampshire tends to be the most active time of the year. We’re spending time hiking in the White Mountains, swimming in our beautiful lakes, or enjoying various activities at the beach. It seems like there are endless amounts of opportunities to celebrate and indulge.
Hey, no judgment.
If spending time inside preparing nutritious meals for the week isn’t high on your priority list this season, you’re not alone. I’ve always fantasized about what it would be like to have a live-in chef. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone else took care of cooking meals that kept you and your family on track this summer?
Well, I’m here to tell you it’s possible..and without having to hire a live-in chef.
Check out these three women-owned, New Hampshire-based meal prepping businesses that do just that!
The Fresh Chef Meal Prep – Southern NH
Fresh and convenient, The Fresh Chef Meal Prep offers meal prepping as well as catering services to people in the Southern New Hampshire area. All menu options are based on seasonal, organic, nutrient-dense foods that are sourced locally.
Owner Abbey Morrison was diagnosed with hereditary high cholesterol at the young age of 7 and worked with a nutritionist to get her cholesterol levels back to normal.
This is where my love for nutrition blossomed. I became infatuated with whole foods. I love learning about the process in which they’re grown and ways in which they affect our body. I am a strong believer and living proof of the quote stated by Hippocrates ‘Let Food Be Thy Medicine & Medicine Be Thy Food.”
She later went on to pursue a nutrition degree at Johnson & Wales University.
So how does it work?
Visit their website and the Weekly Menu. All of the dishes have pictures posted next to them so you know exactly what to expect. From there, everything is cooked on the day of your scheduled delivery and placed in a microwave-safe meal prep container.
Must try this season: The salmon burger.
BB Take Home Kitchen – Contoocook
“Meal Prep” can often make people think of dieting or having a goal of weight loss. The Balanced Brussel aka BB Take Home Kitchen believes everything in moderation and nothing is off-limits (excluding allergies and intolerances). Owner Emily Knowlton says:
We strive to be 100% inclusive of all restrictions, allergies, requests, body types, etc. There’s no judgment here whatsoever. As someone who has lived in the world at 250lbs and at 130lbs, the way you’re treated is so vastly different that I never want someone whose beginning an intuitive eating journey or struggling with weight loss or struggling with food relationships to feel like they couldn’t come here or ask questions.”
Emily earned her degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of New Hampshire. She decided to create BB Take Home Kitchen after commuting 2+ hours a day, working full time, and going to school full time. She found that there weren’t any places that she could either order or pick up meals on her commutes that didn’t cost $40 for two people.
BB Take Home Kitchen has a rotating menu that changes weekly, monthly, and seasonally. All of the meals are hand-cooked from scratch and follow USDA guidelines limiting sodium, added sugars, and fats, while still offering meals you wouldn’t know were “healthy.”
Visit their website to check out the weekly menu and to keep up with all of the happenings at their soon-to-open physical location!
Must try: Teriyaki Salmon, Ponzu Pork Meatballs, Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo, or Gluten + Dairy Free Creama Rosa Pasta.
Beauty & Beast Meals – Fremont
If you’ve been working out at a gym long enough, you’ve probably “enjoyed” the infamous chicken, brown rice, and broccoli meals to reach your physique goals. Beauty & Beast Meals is anything but that!
Owner Ashley Laskiewicz throws boring and tasteless diet foods out the window. She cooks and carefully puts together every meal tailored towards her client’s specific dietary needs or weight loss goals. You can order off of a new menu each week that takes your favorite recipes and gives them a healthy spin without sacrificing taste.
What got me interested in this business was realizing how many people struggle with food, health issues, and weight loss. I can personally relate. I have no thyroid and struggled in the gym for years. I worked with a health coach who helped me with a meal plan and it was a game-changer for me! So I thought, why can’t I do this for other people?”
Beauty & Beast Meals also offers grab & go meals and coffee in their cafe located at 25 Spaulding Rd, Unit 17-R (located in the rear of the building) in Fremont.
Must try: The protein bites and the protein donut.
If you’re finding yourself busier than ever and don’t have the time or energy to make a meal from scratch, let alone a healthy one, these local businesses have your back!
