The Debate Rages On: Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt?

When I was a child I was not allowed to have bubblegum flavored ice cream. I know what you’re thinking and before you storm my parents’ house out of outrage, just listen. Or read. I wasn’t allowed bubblegum ice cream because I wouldn’t bother eating the ice cream but I would just pick the pieces of gum out and eat those. That bubblegum ice cream led to a long love affair with ice cream filled with stuff. I’ve never been able to choose a favorite type of ice cream, but I’m happy as long as it is packed with candy or chocolate pieces or some sort of baked good or all three. Can you imagine an ice cream with all three of those things in it? Heaven.

This ice cream, while delicious, is disappointingly lacking stuff.

I was recently discussing my obsession with a friend and the topic of frozen yogurt came up. Now, my friend is adamant about his dislike for frozen yogurt and went so far as to call it “lies in a cup.” Lies? Maybe. But, have you ever been to a frozen yogurt place? Something like a Pink Berry or TCBY? If you have you know about all of the stuff to put in your sort-of-healthy-frozen-treat! The very best part of frozen yogurt is the ability to pack it full of candy or chocolate or some sort of baked good. Or all three. A lot of the time, these frozen yogurt places will offer fruit as an option to put on your treat. Don’t fall for that. That’s outrageous and everyone knows that fruit has no place in a dessert.

So, as the debate between ice cream and frozen yogurt rages on, I will stay neutral as long as I have plenty of stuff to put into my dessert. And as long as you don’t try to trick me into eating fruit for dessert. Seriously. Fruit is never dessert.

Do you prefer ice cream or frozen yogurt? Tell me your favorite in the comments!

I favor ice cream over frozen yogurt, but Dips on Main Street in Concord was the first FroYo place to make me question my preference for ice cream!
