As I sit here writing my blog post (from Panera Bread drinking my ridiculously good hot cocoa), I am thinking about all the things that I love to do during the fall season. That is in addition to psyching myself up about the upcoming winter season. Luckily I have fall to help me slowly ease into winter. One of the beauties of NH and New England is the four seasons!
Apple picking is always a favorite past time for our family. It is so much fun to get out on a nice fall day and pick apples and then go home to make an apple pie. We always go to Carter Hill in Concord. Great apples, pumpkins, fruits, vegetables, cider, apple cider donuts, pies, knickknacks, and a huge play area for the kids to run around. Carter Hill is open daily until December 21st and their pies are a delicious addition to Thanksgiving meals, or any meal!
If you are looking for something that will really scare you I suggest going to Nightmare New England in Litchfield! They have five different houses/areas for you to walk through. My husband and I usually make it an adults-only night and go with friends and have a blast. It is truly scary and the amount of work and time that is put into scaring the public is amazing.
Hiking is another great way to enjoy the fall and the changing of the leaves. A hike that we love to do with the kids is the Oak Hill Fire Tower in East Concord. It is an easy hike and when you get to the top you can still climb the fire tower and look out over Concord at the beautiful fall colors! One of my favorite hikes to do in the fall is Mount Major in Alton. The hike itself is moderate and about 4 miles, nothing overly hard. But when you reach the top you have gorgeous views of the Lakes Region and you cannot top that view during peak foliage.
What are some of your favorite things to do during the fall season?? Any great hiking spots that would offer spectacular views for my family and I to enjoy?
