Doing Good: At Your Table

David J. Murray,

“It’s been months in the planning,” explains Darcy Horgan the event organizer for the 2014 Tablescapes event which takes place Friday, November 7th to Sunday, November 9th at the Discover Portsmouth Center, 10 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH.

Just merely glancing at the extensive list of featured designers, and workshops available through the weekend extravaganza gives only a snippet of what goes into creating an event like this. “Tablescapes showcases stunning table settings created by area designers, landscapers, artists, and florists,” continues Horgan. “They are given one instruction only – let your imagination run wild.”

The event, which has become an annual fundraiser for the organization Arts in Reach, which empowers teenage girls through mentoring and the arts first took place in 2011. Horgan had the idea for a ‘spectacular showcase’ of unique, entertaining and inspiring table-settings when attending a similar event in Kennebunkport, ME during their Christmas Weekend. “And it’s just taken off from there. People really love the idea, and the event.”

David J. Murray,

“People are looking for inspiration for Thanksgiving, and for Christmas and more. And our tables offer so much, it might just be one napkin fold, or a flower arrangement or you might want to take the whole table home. There really is something for everyone,” explains Horgan. “Sunday is our foodies dream. It’s a real treat for anyone who enjoys learning about food, and drink.”

With speakers such as Evan Hennessey from Stages At One Washington in Dover talking about food inspired by our surroundings and David Adams from the Granite State Growlers Tours sharing his knowledge on tasting and experience NH craft beer as two of the highlights from the weekend it surely will excite the local food movement which is extremely vibrant in the Seacoast, and the rest of the State.

“We aim to entertain people all day,” says Horgan and with Restaurant Week happening in Portsmouth at the same time, you can enjoy the Tablescapes designs and workshops, head out to one of the cities great restaurants for lunch and return to the event for a few more delights in the afternoon.
