A new year is upon us bringing with it the opportunity to start fresh, get healthy, achieve new goals and make a difference in our communities. However, as a lifelong native of New Hampshire I am all too familiar with the January funk that sets in after the Holiday season.
On a chilly Wednesday night I grabbed my sparkly purse and ventured out to cure my cabin fever at Sunflowers Café’s monthly Ladies’ Night.
Sunflowers Café sits on Main Street in Jaffery, NH against a picturesque view of Mt Monadnock. The café’s unique charm consists of cozy tables, hundred year old wood floors, local art, talented chefs and wonderful aromas.
Ladies’ Night takes place on the second Wednesday of the month and benefits various local non-profits. These events are a wonderful opportunity to relax, indulge in some girly drinks and appetizers while networking with local business owners, artists, nonprofit board members and professionals.
Each month the theme and menu changes to complement the benefiting nonprofit with prizes and a 50/50 raffle. January is all about fresh starts so it seems fitting that this month’s event benefited Shelter from the Storm. Shelter from the Storm is a local organization providing transitional housing and support services for those who have become homeless due to a variety of circumstances.
The menu consisted of winter pear salad, pan seared scallops, portabella mushroom burgers, homemade pumpkin bread, Citron Sling, Ruby Bramble and a Vanilla Espresso Martini to name a few. The night was an overall success raising about $390 for Shelter from the Storm and filling Sunflowers Café to capacity. If you are starting to feel cabin fever set in or just need to get your sparkle on, head over to the Monadnock region for a fun night out with a cause!
