29th Annual Apple Harvest Day
My favorite part of grocery shopping the other day was the little boy crying hysterically in the fresh produce section because cherry season had passed. I’m sorry the little boy was so upset, but I love it when kids get that excited about fruit! I hope he embraces apples with equal vigor because Saturday, October 5 marks the 29th Annual Apple Harvest Day in Dover from 9am until 4pm.
Head to downtown to check out the various food court locations, family activities, live entertainment, and even a 5k. There is quite literally something for everyone in this day long celebration of the apple. View their program to make the most of your Apple Harvest Day visit.
2013 Lakes Region Barrel Tasting
Sample the wines from some of New Hampshire’s best wineries in the Lakes Region on October 5 and 6. Enjoy tastes directly from the oak and stainless steel barrels used to ferment and age the wine. Some wineries may charge a fee for a tasting glass, but participation in the tasting event is free. Tour the wine making establishments, learn about the process and even meet the winemakers themselves. There will also be great raffle prizes including a 3-night stay at the Lake House at Ferry Point or dinner for two at Gilmanton Winery’s restaurant. Visit their website for a full list of participating wineries and raffle prizes and see what wonderful tastes New Hampshire has to offer.
Apple Wine Making
And why not follow up your barrel tasting tour with a little apple winemaking workshop?
Join Mary Ann Kristiansen at the Buckminster Farm in Roxbury for an exploration into the art of winemaking and even learn a simple apple wine recipe. The workshop runs on Sunday, October 6 from 1 until 2:30pm, and donations made at this workshop will go to benefit the Jeffrey P. Smith Scholarship Foundation, which focuses on support kids to attend summer farm camps. Visit their website for directions to the farm and to register for the workshop.
