Love Is In The Air

Black Cat Island

Black Cat Island Pure Dark Chocolate Bar

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, so love is in the air….or maybe it’s just another snowstorm?? Either way, chocolate makes both situations better! Come to think of it, chocolate will make just about anything better.

Over the holidays I was lucky enough to be the recipient of a Black Cat Island Pure Dark Chocolate Bar from Winnipesaukee Chocolates, based in Wolfeboro. This hefty, little (3oz) bar was wrapped up so nicely I felt like I had won the Golden Ticket and almost didn’t want to open it. But I knew what was inside and had to take a bite immediately. Don’t lie, you would do the same. Before tearing it open, I read the package very carefully and loved the story about Black Cat Island being located in Center Harbor and being one of only four islands with a bridge that connects to the mainland. I also loved how 10% of the profits go back into the preservation of the lake and the land that the founders of the company are so incredibly fond of.

I quickly became a fan of the chocolate and looked up more information on the website (like, where can I get more?) and was surprised to see so many different flavors. All are handmade right here in New Hampshire. They have two lines, the Winnipesaukee Chocolates and the White Mountains Chocolates. The names of the products in each line make you smile as you reminisce about your memories driving on the Kancamagus, or hiking along the Flume. There is a new flavor in the Winnipesaukee line called Sap House Cove. It’s dark chocolate with maple sugar….yes, please!

I can’t write the story of how the company came to be better than the owners themselves, but I can tell you where to read it and where to buy the chocolates. So check out their website to learn more, find out where you can buy some, or place an order online! Hey guys, don’t forget Valentine’s Day is almost here! Good thing Eat Drink Play has you covered!

As always, please email eatdrinkplay@stayworkplay.org to share your ideas of any New Hampshire related food/drink/venue/organization that you think should be featured here.
