From Lumberjacks to Nuns

lumberjack14th Annual Lumberjack Festival

I almost burnt down the house with my inability to properly split wood. Wood must be split in order to fit inside the stove that heats the house, and lacking this skill, I split the wood too big. The door of the stove would not close on the raging fire and thus, the near burning down of the house.

So I will save the activities at the 14th Annual Lumberjack Festival this Sunday, September 29 in Berlin to the professionals. Starting the day at 6am with a lumberjack breakfast that runs until 9:30, you’ll want to store up your energy for the day’s events, including axe throwing, standing block chop, and log rolling. There’s only a $7 admission for ages 12 and older, and all adults are welcome to participate in the fry pan toss and log throw to win cash prizes!

Is this for real? An entire weekend dedicated to food?

That seems to be true in Windham from September 27 through September 29 as area businesses offer sales, promotions and free samples. On Saturday, the Foodie Expo and and Farmers Market will be held at Searles School and Chapel from noon until 4pm with such businesses participating as Brookford Farm, Calcutta Curry and the Common Man. For more information about Foodie Weekend, contact Community Development Director Laura Scott at 603-432-3806.
