Snow. I want lots and lots.

We can’t talk about New Hampshire, without talking about winter. And that means snow. I will be the first to tell you, that last winter was kind of a nice break. I wasn’t in the mood to constantly dig out from beneath a foot of snow, but this year it’s a different story. I just want it to snow all winter long. I love the quiet that comes with the snow, and it’s sparkly, and it’s magical and I kind of love it. If I didn’t love it, it would make it a lot harder to live here since its winter 9 months out of the year.

I think I might want more snow this year because my son is old enough to enjoy coming outside and playing in the snow with me, whereas before he was just confused and not psyched about the cold wind blowing in his face. We live right in Contoocook Village and we have a healthy trail system in town that is maintained by the local snowmobile club. The trails are fabulous and you can strap on some snowshoes or cross country skis and just head out for miles. We run on the trails in the summer and explore forests with Blake and in the winter it is so much fun to get out to look for animal tracks in the snow and go deep into the woods without getting lost. It’s magical out there on a nice winter day with a blanket of fresh snow.

In addition to that there’s the sledding, snowball fights, snowman building, snow angel making all on the horizon. And those things are all free! I used to do a fair amount of snowboarding, but alas, with a kid and a mortgage payment, those days are behind me at the moment. I’m ready to attack the snow this year! Who’s with me? What are your favorite things to do in the snow? What is your favorite sledding hill or trail to run the dog on? And how about accessories, what’s your winter fashion?
