Sounds of summer in NH

meadowbrook-pavillion-gilford-nh-profileThe beauty of New Hampshire in the summer is something I will be forever grateful for. Living in such an awesome place, we are privy to endless exploration and adventure.

That being said, there are so many other great things this state has to offer, one of them being an abundance of live music. Jon and I went up to the Capitol Center for the Arts last week to see Blues Traveler, very last-minute. There’s something to be said about reliving your childhood through music and being close enough to see the sweat dripping down the band’s faces, for only $40.

It got me thinking… we’ve gotten a handful of event calendars in the mail from venues statewide, and without really looking at them stuck ’em up on the fridge. Thank dog we did, because after we got home from Concord that night, we scanned each one carefully as we realized we had to go to more shows this summer.

Obviously we have big ticket venues like the Verizon Wireless Arena and Meadowbrook (unrivaled on a beautiful, summer night) but there are some wicked great smaller venues scattered around us, as well.

The Palace Theatre (some cool tribute bands will be taking the stage all summer), Tupelo Music Hall, The Music Hall in Portsmouth, and the Casino Ballroom (we have plans to make the trip out there a handful of times) just to name a few. Stay Work Play has a list on their website too.

Of all the things to love about New Hampshire, I can confidently add music to the list.

Does anyone have any other favorite venues to share?

The Purple Pit in Concord!! I am not making these directions up:

It has an unmarked side entrance in the otherwise uninhabited building at the intersection of Pleasant and Main Streets right in downtown. Really hard to find if you’re not looking for it, but a REALLY nice spot for blues and jazz.
