The Ultimate Queen City Happy Hour

I am a 20 something living in Manchester NH, where I also have lived for a large portion of my life. If this is also you, I know that you also feel that more and more friends of yours are also moving to this area. Or you woke up one day and realized that there are more young professionals walking the streets of Elm than “older” professionals (is that a thing?). This is not bad at all, it’s actually a really, really great thing to see! More friends!

If you are like me, a young professional with a decent job, likes to go out, but still has a bazillion bills to pay (car, rent, utilities, and that awful thing people call Student Loans) than you are what I like to call “ballin on a budget”. No shame. This is our life right now and we will learn to accept it. Also like me, I have a feeling you like to indulge on an alcoholic beverage from time to time. So its perfect that you are reading this post because I have created the perfect Happy Hour Guide for the 20 Somethings: Living in Manchester NH. I’m still working on a catchier title. This guide is broken down into the kind of person you may be. Again, if you’re like me, you’ll fit all of them. Enjoy!

The Craft Beer Lover

We all have one of these in our group of friends, or you may be that person. Craft Beer has become the hottest new trend since Kale and cupcake shops. It’s here, it’s cool, and I don’t think it’s going anywhere. If you are a craft beer coinsure, than you know it’s expensive but you need to pay the premium for the good stuff. Unless you read this! Manchester has a bunch of bars with craft beer, and they all have a Happy Hour, so here are my go-to!

Milly's Tavern

  • Milly’s Tavern

The home of Stark Brewing Company. What craft beer lover doesn’t want to be at a happy hour in a BREWERY!?? Monday- Thursday you can walk on down to Milly’s Tavern where you can get selected drafts for $2, yes only $2! Also ½ off apps. If Happy Hour on a Friday is more your thing, you can enjoys those same drafts for $3. Still such a deal!

  • Strange Brew

Strange Brew will always have a place in my heart. This was the first bar I went to in Manchester to have my first legal drink at 21. I order a Blue Moon, and I am happy to say I have come very, very far from that selection. Strange Brew does not brew their own beer, but they have a HUGE selection of all different kinds of beers. Over 100!!! Also ½ off select apps (all are amazing). I haven’t even gotten to the best part, their Happy Hour is 4-9pm! Monday-Sunday! $3 Draft beers, and $3 mixed drinks.

The Sports Lover

So I’m not the biggest sports fan, but I know enough to know that it seems like there is some sort of game going on every day of the week. If you are the kind of person who always has ESPN on and also likes to hang out with friends while watching ESPN. Here are a few options for you!

  • Murphy’s Taproom

Much like Strange Brew, Murphy’s has a HUGE amount of draft beer selections. Also, during sport games they have tons of deals and a huge projector in the bar. If you want a nice beverage after work during the warmer days, head on over from 4-6 Monday- Friday for ½ off drafts and apps, and enjoy the deck!

  • The Dugout

One of the newest bars to hit the Elm St area, The Dugout not only has a daily happy hour special but always will have some sort of deal going on. If you are a New England sport fan, you will enjoy the Dugout. Right when you walk in, the brick and green walls take you right to Fenway Park. With all of their TVs, it always seems like there is some sort game on. From Monday-Friday 4-7pm you can enjoy $2 Bud & Bud Light Drafts, $3 Craft Drafts, and $3 well drinks, and Saturday and Sunday they have $3 Bloody Mary and Mimosas from 12-4pm.

The Foodie

Manchester has so many restaurants, and each one of them has something different to offer. If you come down to Elm Street, you can find anything to suit your craving; sushi to Creole. It’s great, and makes Manchester that much more unique. If you are the kind of person that always wants a “fancy” drink, with a “fancy” snack but suffers from My Funds Is Low Syndrome? Here are a few options for you.

Mint Bistro

  • Mint Bistro

Every Monday-Thursday 4-6pm you can walk over to Mint Bistro and enjoy Sushi rolls & tapas- buy one, get one 50% off. Also, $5 wine options, and $3 all draft beer! The food at Mint is delicious, and this is quite the deal!

  • Ignite

Ignite is a little hidden, its right next to the Palace Theater up on Hanover. If you go on a Friday before a play, make sure to get there a little earlier, it’s a small little place but it really is worth the wait. The martinis are so good, and their signature; The Ignite Martini is on point! Monday- Friday 3-6pm you can enjoy Buy one app and get the second ½ off, $1.00 off beer, wine, & cocktails. It doesn’t seem like a lot but it is when you see the list of cocktails and wine. The Basil Lemonade cocktail while sitting outside is the perfect end to a long work day. Also, I dare you to try the chicken stuffed pepperoncini’s wrapped in bacon. They are a party in your mouth.

Hi Emily! LOVE this post! My husband and I are in our late 20’s and we recently moved here from Boston. We LOVE our apps and drinks and are certainly trying to get a feel for the hot spots.

We also opened up a new business this month- Lush Organic Airbrush Tanning! Check it out when you get a chance! We are having an opening party Thursday 10/22 730-930 pm- if you are free, swing by for some drinks/apps!

Thanks for all the great suggestions, can’t wait to try them out!
