Perhaps it’s a repressed memory now, but did anyone else spend the July 4th weekend in the rain? Every day? At 50 degrees? Outside?
For the July 4th weekend every year, I go camping at White Lake State Park in Tamworth with my best friends and my fiancé. We usually spend a day at the beach, a day hiking, and a day exploring some of the local restaurants and activities. This year, we had to be creative with indoor options.
One of our traditions annually is to visit Hobbs Tavern & Brewing Company in Tamworth on Route 16. We usually wait for the final night of camping to treat ourselves, but this year, we set up our site on Friday night and headed right over! It was a great excuse to get dry and warm.
While we were not looking for outdoor seating on a cold night, Hobbs does offer outdoor seating on their deck. Both their outdoor and indoor seating provide a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, perfect for a night out with friends. Sometimes, they have live music, and they have a function space upstairs as well.
We each started off our meal with a beer, though they do also serve cocktails and other drinks. It is quite a task to choose a beer from their diverse menu, but I picked the Pitch a Tent, a Double IPA, and the best compliment to my meal. And for an appetizer, their cheese curds practically melt in your mouth.
Their menu offers an assortment of unique burgers, sandwiches, and tasty entrees. I ordered the grilled vegetable burger, which is roasted beet and kale with greens and goat cheese – yum! It is certainly a toss-up between the sweet potato fries or truffle fries for a side. Today, I chose sweet potato fries, which did not disappoint! My friends assured me that the BBQ grilled turkey tips, chicken parmesan, and gondola burger were equally delicious.
My next trip to the area will be to the new Hobbs Brewery site, which is located further south on Route 16. They often have food trucks stationed there, as well as live music and various events. Check out this long list of upcoming events!
If you’re looking to try either location, be sure to check out their hours, as they differ between the tavern and the brewery location.
And if you’re looking for a sweet treat after dinner…there are several ice cream places in the area. Bobby Sue’s Homemade Ice Cream in Freedom and Eldridge Family Sugar House & Ice Cream Shoppe in Tamworth are 2 great options…but we’ll save those blogs for another day!
All in all, I’d say we made the best of a rainy weekend, and Hobbs was the perfect way to kick it off!
