I am a big fan of the weekend brunch year-round, but winter always seems to be a good time to reconnect with my favorite breakfast/brunch spots. While one of my goals for this next year is to re-learn how to ski, I love a good lazy winter morning drinking too much coffee and ordering multiple courses of carbs.
The (Newell) Post in Concord has been serving up breakfast and lunch favorites for many years. With homemade breads, dozens of omelettes and sandwiches, and unique breakfast options like tourtière (a Quebec meat pie, who knew?) with eggs, and homemade crab cakes, this is clearly a local favorite. In full disclosure, I have never been to their original location on Fisherville Road, but last year they opened The Post Downtown and it has quickly become one of my favorite Concord breakfast spots. Located right on Main Street it’s easily accessible from Concord’s Saturday morning farmers market. In the summer they also have seating outside, but sadly that won’t return for a few months.
Their cheery exterior and Concord-themed indoor murals are matched in enthusiasm by their massive food portions. The steak and eggs are fit for a family, or for breakfast and some solid leftovers.
The breakfast quesadilla has been my favorite since last summer. It comes with three scrambled eggs and cheese, and you can order it with any kinds of vegetables and breakfast meats you like. I’ve been adding tomatoes, broccoli, and black olives for a variety in texture. The quesadilla also comes with sides of salsa and sour cream to really amp up the breakfast flavors.
If you do decide you need some more food, or want to try more things like I usually do, may I suggest a side of their warm cinnamon apples?
These may not look like much, but they are quite honestly dessert. Breakfast dessert. They almost taste like an apple pie filling and I imagine they would taste great with anything, so just order them. Whoever you are with will be stealing them across your table, so maybe order two sides.
And that concludes my favorite breakfast from The Post Downtown! In addition to their locations at 125 Fisherville Road and 58 North Main Street (Concord) they also cater and have delicious baked goods on hand at any given time. They’re both open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week! View their specials and updates here.
Once you’ve sampled the Post, here are a few other breakfast favorites to try: the Currier’s Sunday brunch, Tucker’s, Bagel Alley, Lucky’s Coffee Garage, The Friendly Toast, Riverwalk Cafe and Waterworks Cafe.
